How to market your music? A process by Vibgyor Yelahanka Band

After the tremendous success of the previous post on what it takes to be a rock band, Vibgyor Yelanhanka Band now wants to share another trade secret with all the aspiring musicians who liked and commented on our previous post. Before starting, we just want to say thank you for the overwhelming response. We had no idea our thoughts could move so many of you out of the closet and into pursuing your music.
First things first, while the soul of the band is all about the music, you need to know how to market your music. Yes the music matters, without a doubt and it is the backbone on which you will market yourself. Think about it – you have this amazing piece of music, your friends and family love it but now it has to be consumed by the masses – how?
Your first step to fame and glory, like VibgyorYelanhanka Band, has to be approachability and visibility. Are you visible online? Do you have a presence on social media or a website? Are you capitalizing on YouTube? Have you generated fans on social media? It’s not enough to open up pages dedicated to your band. You need to keep putting up pictures, video snippets, behind the scenes footage, your creative process, etc. on the pages. You need to create a dialogue and converse with your fans.
YouTube is the best friend you could have asked for! Vibgyor Yelanhanka Band started its journey with experimenting on YouTube. The only thing you need to remember about this platform is the need to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t with a trial and error method.
Another thing to keep in mind is to have products you can sell. Making a decent video for YouTube takes money and equipment. Entice fans to buy your products. Your products can be merchandize, songs, etc. Start building a repertoire of products to keep the cash flowing.

It is important to keep your music separate from the business of music. At the end of the day, neither should be compromised. Until next time; peace out Vibgyor Yelanhanka Band.

What it takes to be a rock band by Vibgyor Yelahanka

As a rock band that has carved a niche for itself, oftentimes our fans ask us how Vibgyor Yelahanka managed to make it big in the organic world of the music industry. For the fans, it is more of our story of rags to riches but as the questions increased, we realized as a band, we are uniquely able to provide aspiring music artists a glimpse of what worked and what didn’t work for us. And so with that thought in mind, we bring to you this post.

A band is about its people and their music. Those, more than anything else, is what will determine your failure and success. Vibgyor Yelahanka has five members and all of us have different favourite music genres, styles, thought processes and personalities. And that is our strength. We bring to our music all our different personalities and tie it together into music which touches our listener’s hearts.

Once your group members have been selected choose a name for yourselves. The name is the most important part of your identity and should reflect not only your uniqueness but also say something about each of you. We chose Vibgyor Yelahanka because all of us hale from the suburb of Yelahanka and we wanted a part of our heritage to be reflected in the name. We chose Vibgyor because all of us have different colours but when we combine our strengths, we are as pure and bright as white light.
Next step, find a place where you can rehearse uninterrupted for three to four hours. Don’t overdo it. But if you are new, you will need to spend more time together to find that band synergy. Once you get it, hone it and use it to your advantage. Don’t worry if you don’t have equipment. You can always rent it.

Last but not the least focus on your music. Don’t lose sight of why you started your band or why you decided to choose this arduous journey instead of joining a corporate. It is your music which will distinguish you at the end of the day. If you can bring some meaning to your listener’s life with the strength of your music...can you imagine how amazing that would feel?

Vibgyor Yelahanka Sensational Music Band

For the leather-and-denim, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band the year 2009 was a phenomenal one. It was this year in September that saw the birth of a landmark event in more ways than one.

It wasn’t just any other rock or fusion band, in fact Vibgyor Yelahanka Band was an embodiment of the lotus philosophy, of blossoming in muddy surroundings. Vibgyor Yelahanka Band had risen from the ranks from being harboured in an unprincipled, unconscientious bedrock which was transformed into a retreat of the righteous and good. This incarnation exemplifies human spirit and endeavour, that boldly proclaims, ‘anything is possible’.
Vibgyor Yelahanka Band consists of those not yet in their twenties, driven by a life force that bountifully surges ahead and like a cascading waterfall entices multitudes to quench their thirst by embracing the elixir of life. The ragas, the melody, the soul-touching lyrics - all stem from this abode of inner peace, clarity and a joyful celebration of tranquility and passion. A number belted out is not just a piece in fluid poetry but several breath-taking variants that engulf listeners, encapsulating them in clouds of almost ethereal rapture, exhileration and pure enchantment.

Drug or any kind of substance abuse isn’t something that anyone from the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band will be remotely associated with or indulge in, considering the amoral habitat that they emerged from victoriously, bathed in the radiance of eliminating the unscrupulous and mercenary. In India, the national festival, Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated as a triumph of good over evil, but for the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band this is their very raison d’etre, a philosophy they embody with each breath! Behind their luminous and unprecedented glory, is this steadfastness to uphold values usually associated with a bygone era. These were the teachers of the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band and in true Indian guru-shishya tradition Vibgyor Yelahanka Band has played the role of humble disciples, hungry to gain knowledge from the Master.

What makes the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band so passionate is no secret. It was borne out of strife and suffering for a better tomorrow. But what makes them bond like a family where siblings cannot be torn apart? The members of the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band consist of a drummer and lyricist, keyboard player, guitarist and bass guitarist and a vocalist.

Now who is the head of this prodigious hard rock group? Unlike most bands, there is no officially designated manager for Vibgyor Yelahanka Band who plans events and markets or promotes the band. It is the tenacious and collective energy of all of them put together that culminates in a soul-stirring show with a superbly unique rendition by each. Their performance reflects how all of them are committed, with their hearts set on making a bigger difference first to their neighbourhood, spreading onto the rest of the city and then extending to the state.

They stormed onto the musical scene with their very first gig becoming an unprecedented success; creating a record in varied ways! Firstly, there is no restricting factor, since there is no manager to give mandates; this results in a creative explosion, purely unchained. Next, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band made two versions of the same number and would play them both – more like teasers for their audience which, spellbound, would not be able to decide which one to vote for.

Why Music Matters?

What is that first thing comes to your mind when you listen to music - any music?

For me, it has always been that beautiful, soothing feeling leading me to another world of my own. Listening to music eases my pain, boosts my energy - fuelling me for the day.

Music also helped me a lot during the times when I was feeling a little low. On one occasion, after listening to some lively, energy-boosting music, I came to know that the artist who performed was also feeling low at that time, but used the gloom to create motivational music to uplift the spirit of others.

Everyone has their favorites on their playlist which they listen over and over again. But sometimes I try some new genre in order to explore how music has touched different cultures or is influenced by it. I am glad I did, because I heard some of the best music which I had not listened before.

My foray into music also extends to playing music instruments such as flute, guitar, and mouth organ to name a few. Though, most of the instruments are really difficult to master at first, dedicated practice helps and daily rehearsals will work like a charm. I discovered that it’s not just listening to but also playing music instruments that can help gain inner peace.
Our Vibgyor Yelahanka Band epitomizes all this.

Vibgyor Yelahanka Band Strikes Again!

After a rousing reception to their first performance, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band creates ripples once more with another class act! Bringing out an album, The Lotus Sutra, they have unleashed their interpretation of yesteryear melodies with a touch of jazz, a huge barrage of rock, beautiful rhapsodies of blues, a harmonious sprinkling of country, topped with folk.

How did the young Vibgyor Yelahanka Band with members who are just a little older than being teenie-boppers themselves, manage to pull off such a feat? Versatility in artistes of their age is difficult to find among youngsters of the present generation, who do not appreciate the finer things in life or value them; being brought up on an unhealthy diet of flippant and at-the-press-of-a-button formulae. This age bracket does not even understand the significance of respecting senior citizens, much less acknowledging their era as the golden one, using its essence and blending it with the lavish trappings of the current scenario.

Take a bow, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band for such stupendous effort that reflects going back to one’s roots, synchronized pace and an eclectic selection that dazzles with the painstakingly improvised tunes, nothing short of pure genius.

The Vibgyor Yelahanka Band is very much like a level-headed damsel weighing every thought, word and deed! The band stands united in its credo to create wholesome music, not just regurgitate Hindi pop or blatently copy and call the shoddy result, ‘inspired work” – in fact, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band steers clear from Bollywood hip-hop and anything that trivializes their art. It may be easy, but it certainly is not their style and they would take the difficult road, especially since they have seen their parents struggle, to beat the odds.

Vibgyor Yelahanka Band emulates their spirit, their dedicated commitment to transform the entire neighbourhood and presents to the world, The Lotus Sutra, as an epitome of the best fusion that bridges the sunshiny yesterdays with the trivial todays.

Vibgyor Yelahanka

It was in 2009 that the leather-and-denim, Vibgyor Yelahanka Band was formed amid great fanfare and publicity. Not the brainchild of one person but the coming together of like-minded and brilliant youngsters, 5 of them actually, who decided to mobilize action for their neighbourhood.
The beautiful September evening with its russet leaves formed a perfect backdrop as the just-out-of-their teens star cast stepped onto the stage, amidst a rousing audience consisting of celebrities and residents. The air was charged with a magnetic aura as the gathering knew this was a momentous occasion that celebrated pure genius and core values.
Yes, the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band wasn’t just a fusion of music-making college kids who were seeking acknowledgement or appreciation from a crowd assembled there merely to boost their spirit; but for a deeper meaning. The Vibgyor Yelahanka Band was borne out of a neighbourhood torn by strife and notorious for small crimes such as petty robberies, small-time thefts, dirty garbage-filled roads and an environment not conducive for healthy growth. However, there were a handful of households who initiated a massive campaign to build a school, hospital and public park, by fund-raising and charitable events. They enlisted the help of the municipality to provide better lighting and launched a cleanliness drive. Their dedicated efforts over a challenging period of seven years bore fruit.

The soiree, when the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band made its debut was a tribute to these very endeavours that had transformed what threatened to be a slum-like labyrinth of despair, despondency and illegal activities into an ideal, hankered-after locality – an oasis of communal harmony, a model of community living which had moulded the superstars. The Vibgyor Yelahanka Band had in fact, witnessed it all – the turbulent ups-and-downs as the middle-aged citizens formed a cohesive wave against the corrupt and the unlawful; shaking the monumental epitomes of vice, to clear the area and make it a haven. Borne from this strife and suffering, the Vibgyor Yelahanka Band was a testament to what willpower could achieve.
The Vibgyor Yelahanka Band – of trials tribulations, success and glory.
